Formula & Underlying Logic

Working Days vs Calendar Days

In project management and commercial contracts, timelines are frequently quoted in "business working days" rather than standard calendar days. Business days exclude Saturdays and Sundays:

Working Days = Total Days - (Saturday Count + Sunday Count)

This prevents deadline compression caused by standard weekend non-working hours.

Worked Step-by-Step Example

Example Scenario: Project Sprint Planning

Sprint begins Monday, Nov 2, 2026 and concludes Friday, Nov 20, 2026 (including end date):

Total Calendar Days: 19 days

Weekend Days: 4 (2 Saturdays, 2 Sundays)

Total Working Days: 15 Working Days

Frequently Asked Questions

This calculator excludes standard Saturday and Sunday weekends. Because statutory bank holidays vary heavily by municipality and country, statutory holidays should be subtracted manually from the working day total.
